Crafting a new work is a multi-stage journey that begins with the libretto and musical composition, and culminates in rehearsal, staging, and finally, a live reading. This collaborative process unites the creative vision of the composer and librettist with the expertise of conductors, stage directors, and production teams.
Join us for an intimate first reading of this new work of American stories, followed by a post-performance discussion with the artists and creators. Discover the creative process, hear the voices behind the vision, and witness the opera’s first steps onto the stage.
The Alchemists
The Alchemists unites two legendary periods in the American story—the Gold Rush and the Dust Bowl—to unearth the struggles and triumphs of charging headlong into the unknown in search of glory, and the myths, legends, and unfortunate truths that emerge along the journey.
The Alchemists will be part of a series called The 7 Deadly Sins and their Virtuous Companions. The Alchemists represents Diligence, as a counterpoint to Sloth.
This production is presented through a unique partnership with the Maryland Opera Studio.
