MISSION OF ANNAPOLIS OPERA
The mission of Annapolis Opera is to present artistically excellent professional
opera productions, educational programs and other opera-related events,
featuring emerging artists to the Annapolis region.
This mission is predicated on the belief that opera is one of the most significant
art forms in the history of western civilization. Therefore, it is an important endeavor to bring this art form to the community in a way that all citizens can afford to enjoy opera as a live art form. To that
end Annapolis Opera supports artistically excellent professional opera
productions.
It is also important part of the mission to educate the citizens of all
ages so that opera can better be understood and appreciated. To that
end Annapolis Opera supports a variety of education programs that serve
people of all ages, from schoolchildren to senior citizens.
In order to attract a wider segment of the population to performances and
educational activities Annapolis Opera presents several entry-level
operatic experiences, such as a dinner concert featuring a performance
of popular opera arias.
The final component of the mission is to support young, American singers,
with emphasis on the mid-Atlantic region who are aspiring to professional
careers. This is done through an audition process which specifically
targets these singers, engaging these singers in leading roles in the
opera productions, and by sponsoring a vocal competition.
